Coach: George Kirgan
  wrestling background

started wrestling at age 8 for the GCWC.  Placed at IKWF State 3 times.  Pinned every competitor during Junior high school wrestling at Coolidge.  During High School broke school records for Most Wins,  Most Pins in a season and career, Most majors in a career, Most takedowns in a career, and Most state tournament series wins in a career.  Qualified for IHSA State tournament 4 years, Placed 3rd at State in junior and senior seasons.  Invited to compete in NHSCA Senior national tournament and placed 6th place.  During Freestyle and Greco season won 10 total state championships.  Double state titles twice as a Cadet and 3 double titles as a junior.  Won All American awards in The USA Nationals at Fargo 3 times in Greco and 2 times in freestyle, national runner – up in freestyle.  Won the Greco world team trials and finished 7th in the World.  During college wrestled 2 years at the University of Nebraska on scholarship and started redshirt freshman year. Placed at every tournament competed in. Transferred to Northern Illinois University on scholarship and started all 3 years of competition.  An injury plagued most of college career, and was unable to finish a single season.  Finished with most pins during junior season and won Academic All- American honors during junior season. During off season won All-American award twice in Greco.  Ended as team captain senior year.

    Coaching Background Started coaching out of college at St. Charles North high school in St. Charles Illinois as an assistant coach and practice organizer, coached them to their most successful season, their first individual state qualifier and state place finisher.  Coached at GCHS 2 years as assistant coach and practice organizer  have had 10 state qualifiers,  1 state place winner, 2 regional titles and a dual team sectional championship.  During off season have coached the Granite City off season program and The Illinois Southern elite program and have had 20 Fargo national qualifiers and 4 All- Americans.
    Personal Goals It is one of the most rewarding things to do. I want my students to feel the enjoyment of being rewarded for the hard work they put in.
    Goals for my wrestlers I want my athletes to be overall good people and goal achievers.

Coach: John Venne
  wrestling background I started wrestling when I was 9 years old and loved it. I was an IHSA state champion my senior year at Granite City High School and an NAIA All-American at Lindenwood University.
 
    Coaching Background I spent one year as a student asst. coach in college and have been coaching at the high school level for six years(2 as a head coach and 4 as an assistant). 
    Personal Goals It’s great to work with the kids and see them progress as they improve from starting with little or no experience to an athlete with developed skills and abilities.
    Goals for my wrestlers To develop and improve wrestling skills that in turn will give the athlete self-confidence as well as promote good sportsmanship.

  wrestling background Wrestled for Granite City Wrestling Club and Coolidge Middle School. Mike wrestled at Granite City High School from 1998- 2002. Was a varsity captain and led the 2002 Warriors to an Elite 8 finish. Division III Nationals qualifier.
 
    Coaching Background Currently a Coolidge Middle School History Teacher and Grigsby Middle School Wrestling Coach.
